Do you think that most women and men would rather go out with someone "of their own caliber"?

Would you be uncomfortable going out with someone you felt was much more educated than you are, or on the other spectrum, who had much less education than you?

I presonally would feel a little inferior to someone with a much higher degree, etc than I had. I wouldn't be able to help feelign that way. I also don't think I can be with someone who never graduated from high school. I don't think we'd have much in common. My feeling is commonality is very important, but not crucial, in a realtionship.

I have earned my share of degrees, but I still find I can learn something from most everyone I meet. My son has surpassed me in many areas, though I do hold more degrees, yet we still have wonderful intriguing conversations we both find to be eye opening. We both enjoy teaching each other things the other doesn't know. There are plenty of people who have acquired their education by means other than university. I don't minimize knowledge acquired away from a classroom. I actually get turned off to people who feel a need to show off and appear superior to others. I don't see them as more educated than me. The last thing I want to do is limit my dating pool to only those who possess the same degrees as me. I actually feel more comfortable with people I share interests with than hanging around academia. Though I've never given birth, I feel no reluctance to learn from those who have. Everyone has something special to offer.

I don’t think having many degrees may mean someone is showing off. Many people have this notion. I think that they are simply interested in learning, is all. And yes, you can have a degree or learn via books your own way; but the degree is optional and also a way to get a better job/ resume.

Not all educated people show off. I never claimed that. I just avoid those who do. Degrees can open some doors, but, for others, it can just leave them with lifelong debt. I appreciate intelligent people, but a formal education isn't necessary to acquire intelligence. Intelligence requires 2 abilities... the ability to acquire knowledge and the ability to apply knowledge. People may be great at one, but it's the balance that shows true intelligence.

We often prefer to associate with people most like us, but there interesting opportunities to experience differences. For example, maybe that someone with more education than you knows about things you'd really like to know about but never took the time to do so. There is fun in differences.

just because some people have a high degree in education it doesn't mean that they can converse, give me someone that has travelled a lot, talk can move from one subject to another, because they most likely have seen things for themselves, I know a guy that hasn't much education but oh boy, I an listen to him all night long

I may be seeing someone who I found out (by accident) is a history professor, or was one in college and has a PHD in it. He was evasive with me on that, knowing what I did myself (former special ed teacher). So I am pretty nervous about that and how I may feel (not as intelligent) next to him. Otherwise he seems down to earth, so maybe I am being too sensitive about that.

@Amy10223 yeah I get it. But here’s the thing, he doesn’t have experience with Special Needs Education, so maybe you can learn from each other. It’s like my husband and I. I’m a teacher (now administrator) and he is a medically retired veteran who now works for the state. While we have somewhat different backgrounds, we learn from each other, and (I hope) compliment each other.

Going out with someone of a different education level, whether higher or lower, does not bother me at all. Actually I don't give a damn. Everything depends on the human qualities of that person, having a high degree, being never a guarantee for real intelligence, compassion, tact, etc. Nice people of good will can be found in every layer of the population, whatever their level of education.

Actually, a person needing to call upon a some high degree to dominate someone else only proves him- or herself to be very insecure. No offense meant.

Sometimes though, the level of education doesn't necessarily mean the people have achieved this to dominate others. Some people do it because they love learning. We learn everyday, but some love to go the school route to gain more experiences besides learning, and get their degrees along the way.

You're right. Sure there are different ways to learn and evolve, and getting an official degree is one of them, but still, what I meant to say is that genuine human qualities are not related to the level of education.

any person with any degree whatsoever, will have a higher degree than me because I don't even have a degree lmao, and that doesn't matter to me

also, I would never look down on anyone that didn't complete high-school either because that could happen for many different reasons

the smartest girl I've ever met in my life (and I am talking highly intelligent in mathematics as well as physics) she never went to college, she quit high-school, and her business, which she started herself was making the same profits in four months than I did in a year... so yeah, she wasn't dumb in any way, lol

people are and can be a whole lot more than all the books they've studied and read about, that is for sure

That’s the thing about “leagues” and “calibers”.

just because someone veiws you as let’s say an 8 doesn’t mean that someone else who’s viewed as the same caliber is gonna think you on her level and vice versa.

If you find someone you really like who you have great chemistry with and who feels the same and y’all wanna be together then be together who cares if one is rich, attractive and educated and the other is just average across the board. If they are happy together that’s what matters.

And just remember money can run out, looks can fade and education does not equal intelligence.

Well for women they want someone who is at their level or higher in every way. The only thing ill have an issue with is the other person's lack of experience. If I want to raise a family Ill need someone who has been through stuff to know she'll be able to handle hardships.
