How come people don't give back positive comments when you give them, isn't it common courtesy?

Example, if you wish someone good luck on their new job or with their school, isn't it nice to provide that in return like, "I also wish you the best of luck with your decision in job-x or at school-x". I genuinely wish others well because its the kind and respectful thing to do.

We are not raised, since the advent of Humanism and Self found in Rogerian thought, to think of others. If you ever find a woman who does exactly how you describe…marry that princess 👸🏻. People care not for human beings unless their Self and Selfie mindset are glorified through that person. This is why we have so many Narcissists and I spend majority of my time telling people how “wonderful they, their work, family etc are…. as I rise the Corporate ladder feeding the Selfie 🤳.

I get what you are saying but what I was referring to were some work colleagues who are leaving the company to pursue other ventures in their life. I wished them all well in a heart felt way. My thinking is, others should reciprocate and say "thank you, I wish you well in your pursuit of getting a Masters degree or I hope things work out with you ad that girl your dating". Something along those lines. I understand someone will say, why am I so eager to receive a form of gratitude in return from others which makes my gestures to be inauthentic. I get that, but if I don't like someone, I won't go out of my way to say something nice, I will usually keep to myself and move on. But if I have kids one day, I will raise them to respect others and be kind hearted to others. Obviously there are certain circumstances where you don't have to be "pleasant". Anyhow that was my point of view.

Because by nature most people are self centered and selfish. Take pride in knowing you are different! I am too and sadly I am learning the only way to not be disappointed is to not expect anything from anyone else. Most of all do not expect someone to show love, respect, compassion etc. in the same manner that you do.
