Sometimes - hopefully, not very often - a lady needs to be defended in a physical sense. Perhaps a drunk is trying to accost her or some legend-in-his-own-mind romeo is trying to get too familiar with her. Sometimes, a woman is insulted and her honor needs to be protected. Some guys are ready to step in and do whatever they can to defend you and some guys run from the challenge. Have you ever had this experience?

I've only been in one position where I might've needed a defender, and was with my boyfriend at the time.

However my boyfriend was the stereotypical North American suburban white kid and had ZERO street smarts. No situational awareness.

We were downtown at sundown, not really dangerous but not a "doors unlocked" sorta place. As we're crossing towards a building, this dude sees us and splits off from his friend (heading the other way) and beelines across the intersection to us. There were no cars, so it was a straight shot.

I clocked him, got between him and my (blissfully unaware) boyfriend, and gave him a firm look, smile, and a curt "hello, there". He took a look at me, noticed how I was standing, and gave me a nod and a cheeky grin before heading back to his friend. He was clearly going to either mug us or sell us drugs - and I didn't want to find out which.

I steered my boyfriend (still confused) into the nearest coffee shop and he still had no clue what I had just helped him avoid.

It was the last time I took him downtown after dark. Not too much long after we started drifting apart, because while he was happy stagnating and being a victim of his life, I wanted to build my career and grow.

I'm relieved I didn't need to actually fight. I don't think I'd have been able to beat that guy. And I definitely don't think my boyfriend would have stayed to help - he'd definitely have run off.

There's been a couple of times I've flirted with a man and asked him to dance with me cause another man has gotten the wrong idea. Like I was at a club and having a drink at the bar and this guy started chatting to me and asked me for a dance and then immediately started grabbing at me after trying to avoid him for about 20 mins I walked up to this gay couple and asked if I can hide behind them (they were quite tall) and then they said to just dance with them and they gave the other guy a dirty look. I brought them both a drink and went on our ways after half an hour.

My male coworker was making fun of my appearance and calling me ugly and my boyfriend stood right by me and said nothing, he even laughed a little. I asked him later on why he didn’t defend me and his excuse was “it was just a joke, even if I told him to stop he wouldn’t have.” It made me furious. Needless to say he is my ex boyfriend now for that and other reasons.

I usually defend myself or have backup with me (usually my girlfriends)... But that hasn't happened since like.. highschool 😅

Haven't been in any situation where I needed someone else to defend me. I'm rarley insulted and usually just get away from situations with a smile.

He wasn’t “my man”, he was my brother, and yes he defended me and helped me get away from the guy that was trying to assault me in a club. I’ve never had a situation where I’ve had to get my boyfriend to defend me from anyone.

I've learned to defend myself if and when needed, but I do my best to avoid situations requiring defense.

I’ve never been in a situation where my man needed to defend me. Hopefully he would but I’m not counting on it since all I’ve heard is how much guys don’t defend their women when they need it
