Isn't calling your girlfriend, fiancee a situation disrespectful?

A friend of mine always refers too his girlfriend a situation when he talks to me about her which is rare. He doesn't talk about her to his guyfriends. His private life is no ones business for sure, but a situation?/ they have been engaged for six years see each other sometimes and yes his guy buddies are concerned for him... thoughts?

How old is this friend of yours? He seems extremely immature to handle an adult relationship. The length of the engagement is not the concern here, but the fact that he refers to his fiancee as "situation" multiple times is a big red flag. Does she know?

They could stay engaged for 6 years because of their financial situation, could be a lot of factors.

damn, if money is not an issue, that long of an engagement IS a concern, for sure! The fact that he is 73 years old and still not willing to get married even though he is engaged is just a big red flag to me.

Sounds like your friend is just stringing that girl along. How old is his fiancee?

Being engaged for too long is a concern already. It shouldn't really last more than a year, otherwise it becomes just a relationship. The purpose of an engagement is really a brief preview (overview, short summary) of everything we've gone through in their relationship and a look into what the marriage life will be like.

Secondly, yes referring to a girlfriend or fiancee as a situation seems like a red flag, as if he didn't want to be in that position. I think they should break up.
