Sure. I think there are certain times when people can work around a ring, or not be expected to wear it.


My uncle got burned on his finger - he was a mechanic - worked on his wife’s car one time about 30 years ago. He forgot to take the ring off, and he got burned and somehow pinched/stuck and it did worse. He hasn’t been able to wear a ring since. And he still has a scar. They joke that she’s not offended by the lack of a ring because he’s been branded.


I think if your partner won’t understand, and gets offended and you want to compromise, I’m sure there‘s some work around. Maybe gloves over the ring? Maybe a cheaper ring? Maybe a tattoo (or design a temporary tattoo). I have a friend who wears a cheap band when she’s working out, and replaces it when she’s going out. Another friend wears something else from the hubby, like “bride” t shirts. Another puts the ring on a chain and wears it underneath when working out. And guys don’t hit on them, so it’s never a problem anyway.


I think some jobs or hobbies it makes a lot of sense that you shouldn’t wear a ring. I think some significant others have to be patient about that. A ring won’t stop someone who want to cheat from cheating. Not having a ring doesn’t make you “any less engaged.”

A wedding or engagement rings meant to be worn. People lose them when they take em off like what doing dishes, showers, or some stupid woman taking it off to appear single at the gym.

Of course it is! You risk damaging your ring or getting hurt/injured from having your ring on while using certain gym equipment. If you still want to have something on as an alternative, you may find a silicone ring to wear instead.

You can attach a ring holder to your gym bag, and use that to store your ring and keys if you're afraid of losing them. Popflex bags come with a ring attachment on the inside, but it's probably not too difficult to attach your own in an existing gym bag as well.

If your fiance is upset about it... Well... Ask him to get you a silicone ring too 🤭🤭

Of course it's okay! I would never wear my engagement or wedding rings to the gym. Whenever I work out or do anything where my hands could get dirty, I wear my silicone ring instead. You can get them pretty cheap so you'll still have a ring on but don't have to worry about losing or damaging it.

If you want guys to know your taken, buying a heart necklace and putting it around your neck can do the same thing, if that is not allowed, you could print a t shirt that shows a photo of you kissing your boyfriend.

I don’t wear my ring when weigh lifting.
I made that mistake a while ago when my band got scratched on the barbell. Luckily it wasn’t an engagement band. Plus I feel like I lose a bit of drip of a barbell when wearing rings. I don’t wear mits either. Don’t wear it if you think you’ll lose it or damage it.

Yes, but you don't have to. You can keep it in a safe place or it you still want it on you, you could get a necklace that holds it

Yes, as a retired jeweler, I repaired/straightened many rings that were damaged in the gym. One of the most common things is that the bottom of the shank gets flattened.
In some cases it could crack where it was sized, easily repaired, prongs get bent, or worse if it get caught between 2 weights.

I would take the ring off since it can interfere with weight lifting. As for being approached at the gym I don't even know if that happens anymore. Most people go there to workout and go home. But you could just say your are married if someone approaches you.

Standard safety rules discourage that. Doesn't matter what type of ring it is. I wouldn't be mad. I would think that my fiancee had some since. If a man at the gym tried to pick her up, then its up to her to say the right thing. Its jewellery not an ownership tag.

I would suggest you not wear any jewlery when exercising. Where I used to work there was a guy who was climbing a rack. He slipped, fell, his ring got caught on something and ripped his finger off.

Best to change to a rubber athletic band ring if you desire to still show. Wearing real rings they will get dinged by barbells and you can even injure yourself.

She gave me hers and I put our rings together... thought I put it in the safe but I think I lost them somewhere. That's like a pointless 5k down the toilet.
