In marvel comics: Not sure that is the case. I mean he is literally made to be a charismatic character, while thor is "just" a strong fighter that only later gets good wits, maybe thats why. Early Thor is a wild barbarian like character.

In mythology: I dont think this is the case either. I dont think he was even worshiped as he was portrayed like the devil. Not in a ultra evil kind of way but in a sense of fallen from grace and personification of peoples "bad" or not desirable characteristics.
