My boyfriend never argues with me in person but only on the phone. We argued on the phone a few times and on the same day we see each other he just smiles and laughs. I don't remember us ever arguing in person.

In conflict there are two types of people: 1) those who withdraw, come up with a plan and then tackle the issue. Or 2) people who prefer to deal with the issue right then and there. Maybe y'all just have different conflict management styles? Perhaps he needs a minute to withdraw, think about it and then comes back later to work it through. If that's the case then maybe you should tell him it makes you anxious when he withdraws in the moment and when he wants to come back to work on it you'd rather have that conversation in person?

I don’t think anything significant could be gathered from it unless you noticed something off-putting or concerning for the two scenarios, that we missed/ are missing.

He could possibly feel more insecure with somehow being focused on his voice, or I don't know. Really should ask him. Weigh it out by what he says.
