Ladies, would you want your man to be your trophy man if you make a lot of money and he doesn’t have to work a day in his life? Why/why not?
3.6K opinions shared on Relationships topic. Not interested. Men are defined on what they DO, and always have been. I'd prefer to lose everything I have and have to start all over from scratch, rather than being a leach on a woman. With very few exceptions, women don't spend money on men like men spend money on women, and of those few who do, most resent the guy and don't respect him. That's a relationship that's going to become toxic sooner or later.
I was extremely attracted to a girl who I "met" online long before I'd ever seen her or knew anything about her. I'd been writing some technical papers - papers that were good enough to draw the attention of a couple of real experts in the field. She contacted me about some similar papers she was writing, and we eventually wrote a larger article together, with lots of sources and data.
To make a long story short, she was highly educated and very smart, but when I met her, she was also my exact physical type. BUT... I eventually learned that she was also incredibly wealthy, and her family was super wealthy, being 6th or 7th-generation bankers and owning several European banks. And while she wasn't one to flaunt her money at all - no Ferraris, no Prada bags, etc. - she also traveled by private jet and played polo (one of the most expensive sports to participate in), and would never have to concern herself with what anything cost - her investments earned her several million a year (at least) in her early 20s.
I decided not to pursue her romantically upon learning this - which is not to say that I'd have had any guarantee of success if I had - but I would never have been able to respect myself if I lived off of her, but I also had no chance of being able to maintain her lifestyle financially.

No I wouldn’t ever go down this path because a majority of men have confidence and ego issues and connect their money/ability to provide to their self worth. I was with a man where this was the scenario. He never went to college, I did and we said he’d be the trophy husband and I’d make the money. Well that turned into the most dramatic relationship I’ve ever been in due to his insecurities. He was constantly feeling low about his lack of income, and whenever I had some good news about getting a great position or making more money or even getting hired at a great company, he wouldn’t be happy for me and instead would always think I’d leave him for someone more on my level. I’m not saying it can’t ever work, but I personally wouldn’t do it again.

Can you really blame the guy? Society has been built around men being providers for centuries or millennia. I'm sure he was happy for you in that you were doing well with your life, but I'm also sure that it made him feel emasculated and inferior to other guys. His insecurities were justified. This is just more proof that women are not the same as men and can't switch roles at all. If a woman is insecure, men try to support the girl through her insecurities to the best of their ability. Then there's women, who see an insecure guy and just get irritated and leave.
- +1 y
@HawkPerception he was not happy for me. And no I don’t blame men at all. This man was extremely toxic for reasons outside of just this but he secretly hated me for any success I had.
- +1 y
@HawkPerception by the way I didn’t leave him. He left me and made sure to let me know HE was leaving ME to feel superior. I tried to support and encourage him whenever I could but it was never enough. It became emotionally toxic and I cried every day because he was very manipulative.
- +1 y
I don’t get it. I mean more money for him right? And the fact that a woman like that chooses him should be a ego boost.
Not all men are the same and not all women are the same. Some people are just I don’t know what - +1 y
But I would more just feel bad

@coconut94 In that case, I apologize for my assumptions and you sound like a genuine girl that was willing to stay by a guy regardless of where they were in life (although now your views have changed).

+1 yHmmm. The thought of either a man OR a woman not working a day in their lives seems like a waste.
No matter who makes a ton of money, I would hope a partner has interests that would improve both peoples' lives, whether it's in paid, volunteer or community support work (being on boards of directorship).
Everyone needs to do something valuable.20 Reply

+1 yNot sure I understand the concept of trophy man, but I have never cared for how much income a girl has. But even if she has more, I would feel like a leech and emasculated if she she paid for everything. I also have dreams and goals for my life that I'm actively pursuing and even if I reach them, I would still like to sustain them. I don't care about how much my partner makes. If they're broke, I don't mind covering their expenses IF I have the means. And if they're making more than me, that's fine too, but I'm not going to be slacking. The only thing is, I've noticed a pattern with girls. When they have a higher income, they tend to go for guys that make equal or higher income. And my belief is that is because women are generally attracted to men that have dominant traits. Money in society now is almost directly related to the level of confidence you have, sadly.

+1 yAgreed with most of the men here. It doesn’t happen often naturally.
If you’re out there working and associating with men who are also on your level I don’t exactly see how the man could be a “trophy.”
On some level those men would consider him a loser and would feel far more comfortable in overstepping boundaries in pursuant of you and the draw of higher status provider male swooping in and taking your girl is a story as old as time. In her mind she’s “doing what’s best for her.” But in his mind he knows it is the natural order and feels foolish and devastated.

+1 yI don't care honestly. As her man, I believe it is my job to keep and maintain her happiness. Mental stability. Optimum mental level.
I am not a part of her professional life, right? This question should tell the answer to everyone. What is expected from you, primarily, is exactly what needs to be understood here.

+1 yTrophy man? Lololololol! I'm sorry but if you thinking something like Madonna and her young bfs, I'll just say this... I don't care how good they may look, they the biggest losers ever if they dating a woman 40 years older. I don't care if its Christie Binkley.

+1 yIt depends on the kind of man you are looking for I think. My grandpa had a great job but grandma had a little inheritance and also grandpa added to it and she started a business. At first it struggled but then it took off and she ended up making more money than him. The trick wasn't income but she never changed. He was the husband and she was the wife they stuck the same traditional settings they started on. He just got nicer presents and the kids had nicer stuff.

+1 yNo, I wouldn't mind, as long as I were treated well and enjoyed it.
That being said, I'd want to at least somewhat earn my keep too, even if it meant just doing house work.
The way I look at it, is that if someone would want me, it means they care for me or at least like me and as a result, I think I'd automatically like them back more, even if it's just person to person and if they're nice enough to provide for me, I'd want to return the favour.

I'm not even going to be my own trophy man so why would I want to be a trophy for anybody I'm human I'm me I like me I like things that I'm capable of doing I like everything about me but I'm not going to be showing around like a little fuckboy I mean I might for a day or so but that's about it
10 Reply498 opinions shared on Relationships topic. No because I don´t think the concept of having a partner as a trophy/ status symbol isn´t attractive to me. If my partner was more successful than I would do more in the household but I wouldn´t date a person to be their or my status symbol and be someone they especially can use or meet when they need me.

No, I will pass. I want my own money. I want my own freedom. I want my life to have meaning and value.
10 Reply 991 opinions shared on Relationships topic. The few relationships that I have seen IRL where the woman made significantly more money, she was often abusive to her partner, had a very bad attitude, didn't take his wants into consideration, and treated him like a child when it came to decisions. All 3 relationships I have seen with the women making $10,000 + more than the man were abusive like that.
10 ReplyHaha I'm alright looking but not shiny trophy looking. She could earn as much money as She wants wouldn't mind as long as she had the sex drive I do and could still go out to do stuff on weekends I wouldn't mind one bit otherwise whats the point in even being with someone. Haha Maybe that defeats the point of good-looking dude that just sits on the couch emotionless no job. If it's full on just objectifying Ya then I want pay or some cool shit.

+1 yI wouldn't care how much a partner made. But trophy man sounds like there would be no connection between us and I'm only there for my looks.
If you just mean if I could be with someone who makes a lot more money than me and don't care that I don't have an income or my own? No, I wouldn't mind that.20 Reply- 1.1K opinions shared on Relationships topic.
+1 yGirls don't want trophies. They want to treat equality like a buffet where they choose what parts they want. I'm sure that "self made" girl would only date a guy who makes more money than her and would probably expect him to still pay for all her dates.

+1 yNot at all.
Regardless of how much she makes, it's not her job to make me feel good about myself. To make me feel like a man.
Every man needs to be able to feel like one regardless of his wife's standing.
Think about it, how weak it is to feel less of a man just because your wife makes more money.
20 Reply2.4K opinions shared on Relationships topic. I wouldn't mind because let's be real, it lets me be lazy and people are going to think there's something special about me because she chose me.
At the end of the day though, I don't care if my woman is rich or poor so long as she's good to me.10 Reply390 opinions shared on Relationships topic. Sounds good on paper but in practice it's a shitty deal. There are no laws that protects a mans interests in a relationship or marriage. Anything a man will ever own or be will be because of the work he does and if he doesn't work all he'll ever be will be decided by the woman he's chosen.
In my experience women don't tend to be generous regardless of how successful they are.
20 Reply988 opinions shared on Relationships topic. No I don't want to date a masculine woman and we know they will just get tired and lose respect of any man they put in that position. So this isn't even a working relationship. It's a temporary vacation at best.
20 ReplyI'd probably still work but if money was no option it'd be nice to put my work efforts into charitable areas. I'm pretty handy with construction and a qualified electrician so the money I make is pretty good but it would definitely be more rewarding to not have to consider money and put those skills into helping out people who are financially on hard times
