Two things I used to like about a guy I previously crushed on was that he had a good vocabulary and creative communication skills, and he kept up to date on changing events in the world so that he never ran out of things to talk about. You don't have to be a newspaper reader, you could keep up to date on science news, financial news, technological inventions, religious leaders, gardening skills, artistic hobbies. The point is to gather information, to learn, and to formulate an intelligent thought about it.
