i dont think its about it being fair but more of the fact if its healthy for your next relationship, if its over just let it go, its just opening the door to the opportunity of it manipulating your next relationship, not to mention it will also stall the healing process when it comes to emotions for that person, its just saves you a lot of trouble if you let it go completely and not just try making something out of nothing.

Eh I think it depends on why yout in touch and the level of honesty. If you are honest friends and ur honest about it I think it can be fine if ur boyfriend comfortable. I also think it's fair if he not.
