He might still want to be friends or he thinks he made the wrong decision and is checking the waters hoping for the reason he left to be different or to just come back in general
The person he left me for has their life together more than me though from the limited info I gather.
Well just having your life together isn’t everything though I mean everyone is different and you can enjoy being with someone more than another and it sounds like he regrets leaving and kinda wants to go back….. I’d just ignore him tbh and let him live with his decision
