My boyfriend of five months doesn’t say I love you as as often how can I ask him to say it more?

Been with my boyfriend for 5 months when we first met I was sick found out I had to have a hysterectomy and lost my husband 15 months ago he has been amazing

recently he has been under a lot of stress very tired , he hasn’t told me he loves me as often , he used to say it all the time I am a big worrier anyway

how do I ask him to tell me more often without sounding like I am criticising him? Or should I just ask himI have dropped hints but nothing I don’t want to be a nagg

When he does say it though, so you believe his words to be true?
I think many people have heard "I love you" from someone where the words lost it's meaning because of how often it was said. Even at times when it wasn't quite clear anymore.

Yes he does, I like hearing it, makes me feel special been so supportive and kind I know I am worried about everything at the moment the last year has been extremely hard

I know you don’t want to be alone, but I don't know maybe you got into a relationship too quickly because of that fear. People need time to heal, and you don’t need him trying to fix you or fill that void in your heart because you haven’t faced it yet. Anyway, what I think matters most are his actions. If he shows you love, then maybe that’s just who he is as a person and you shouldn’t try changing him in an effort to feel good. Only you are capable of achieving your happiest self.
