Voted "Other." There is, quite simply, no way to put a definitive number on this question.
Water seeks its own level and every relationship will tend to its' own rhythm. To assume that there is some formula that can be coaxed out of the ether and that will result in "happily ever after" is simply not realistic.
It is an attempt to put mathematical precision on human feelings and that is not likely to end well. Indeed, about the only thing it will do is put a stop-watch on every relationship.
Probably not a good outcome will follow.
Bottom line, let the relationship define the timing. Do not let the clock define the parameters of the relationship. It would be nice if it could be timed, but human feeling and human relationships don't work - and given human frailties cannot - work that way.
I would propose at least 1–2 years, ask her for my hand in marriage. I made a big mistake proposing to my first ex-girlfriend within two months.
Thanks for MHO :)
I assume you mean propose. From what I’ve heard from others, 2-5 years is the general amount of time. Though my sister got engaged 2 years into her relationship, and my mum got engaged 6 years into her relationship.
once you’re both ready and you’ve talked about wanting marriage
Best comment - this gives a clear picture of where you stand and if either of them are not on same page talk about it and if one is not agreeing to the other better to move on rather than keep hanging in there
@james_d0007 thank you! surprising peopke with proposals has always seemed bad to me

It's hard to put a time limit on that... all relationships are different.
I proposed to my wife (long time ago) about 3 months after we started dating. But we knew each other for about 2 years before that because we worked in the same office.
However soon you feel like it. It depends on the relationship and the chemistry between you and your partner.
I remember a girl I was texting on a dating app moved in with her boyfriend after two years while my friend and her boyfriend moved in together just recently after ten years together.
My point is that it varies, as it should. There are no norms for anything, whether it's initiative cycle, time before moving in together or time before proposal.
Depends,…….. some people date 5 years get married. Only to get a divorce in 7 years
others meet. And get married in a few months and it lasts forever……. Like my parents did.
theirs no set rule. It depends on the two people going into it
I don’t propose shit until she proves she is in it for the long haul period people that propose right away are desperate mother fuckers that need a wake up call , if you truly don’t know someone , do not waste your time proposing , you are just digging your own grave for thinking they love you back the same. Wake the fuck up
It depends. Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter met when she was born and he was three. The waited nearly twenty years. Dan and Marilyn Quayle got married six weeks after meeting.
5 years , u don't know who ur going to end up with
None. He'll propose this time round. Or we just agree to get married and skip the proposal altogether. But I think by 1 year you'd know if you're willing to marry them.
Depends on your current age. If you're 25, you got time. If you're 35, you might not want to wait long.
There's not a time frame on it. Every couple is different.
If the relationship isn’t broken don’t fix it, don’t get married.
think people should wait at least 4 years. before that it's too soon
Assuming you meant propose, 1 year into the relationship, but the relationship starts 3 years into the friendship. So a total of 4 years.
At least 3 years and at least one if them while we are living together
Probably not at all, as I don't see the need for marriage in a relationship.
I don't think there is a set time limit.
Five or six. Decades.
any time you feel it right
Honestly it should be no longer than a year
2 years most
3 years
2 days lasted 36 yesrs
