I haven’t really heard of this before. If this happens to some people I suppose maybe it’s because of familiarity? Maybe people who haven’t really escaped the cycle of abuse for most of their life are more likely to associate with abusive type personalities because that’s what they’re used to being around.
Personally, I wouldn’t gravitate towards this type of person, because I have been out of an abusive environment for quite some time now, and can identify red flags pretty easily, and what abusive personalities look like.
Most abusers spend their time belittling the victims worth so they think they deserve it.
It means simply, we're more susceptible to using the same mentality in other aspects of life. Hence why therapy is a great thing as it helps us realise that that mentality isn't truth.
It's a familiarity thing. You are attracted to what feels natural. If abuse feels natural, then that's what you'll gravitate towards.
