Do most people confuse genuine love for falling in love (infatuation)?

They want every day to be great without a single argument ever. As soon as it's a bad day, they want to call it quits. They only want to commit just base on feelings and lust without knowing if they even have common interests and values.

They would like to live the luxurious life of always fantasizing about their partners 24/7, think of the great moments together and think that's how love really plays out. Is infatuation aka falling in love confused for genuine love by many people?

By definition infatuation is short-lived passion or adoration, so I wouldn’t compare that fleeting obsession to actually falling in love with a person. In fact, wouldn’t falling in love be what’s genuine? That’s the purest form.


I think what you’re trying to explain are unrealistic expectations. When a person, for whatever reason, is under the assumption that their relationship with a person should be perfect with no disruptions, no drama, and basically living in a fantasy of their own creation.


It’s easy to confuse their strong fixation over this unrealistic future with actually falling in love, because whether they realize it or not, they want the version of someone that they hope the person will be. When it’s not up to par, they will either keeping hanging on and hoping, or finally lift the veil and look at things for what they are.
