How Can I be Supportive of My Boyfriend when He's Frustrated?

My boyfriend (25) of 4 years is a computer science major (senior) and struggles with some concepts in the field. He becomes very frustrated at these times. I want to be supportive of him and help him to feel better, but I don't know what to do.

In the past, I've tried to suggest he go to tutoring at his university or that he ask for help from people in his field, but I think I may have overstepped a boundary in trying to suggest he figure things out as I have in the past. I've also tried to express that I know he'll get it eventually, and I've even tried to just be quiet and let him be. Regardless, when he becomes frustrated, he gets really in his head and gets himself really down. I know it may not be my place or my job, but I would like to help in any way that I can.

I don't know how to be supportive when he's struggling with homework. Any advice would be deeply appreciated.
