They're using you for your money. Just because they have a job doesn't mean they're doing well, or financially stable.

To stop them from using you and taking your money: stop offering to pay. If you two go out, ask for separate bills and bring enough JUST for your meal. NEVER loan them money- no matter what. Don't even give them the opportunity to get your money. They will probably call you out on it: don't let them guilt you. Just say you don't have the money to spare and hope they understand... you know, like a good friend.

If they're using you, they'll stop talking to or associating with you, which is exactly what needs to happen if that's the kind of person they are.

Think of it this way. If I have a really close friend and I value his friendship, when we go out to eat, if he is offering to pay for both our meals a lot I'm going to feel like I'm taking advantage of him and I'll volunteer to pay from time to time. If a person just lets you pay all the time and they NEVER offer even once, if they act in any way like they just expect you to pay... they really do not value you or respect you.

That is your clue they are just using you and see you as an ATM or free meal. That is your clue to cut this person from your life.

If you really value them and respect them you'll offer to pay some too.
