I don't believe in the idea of asking for a blessing from parents/siblings before proposing

I met my wife's parents at some point after the two of us were exclusive. They liked me and I liked them, but I didn't ask for their approval. I didn't even know for sure yet if I wanted to marry her. And I don't think a woman needs her parent's permission. The idea actually makes me sick. "May I have your daughter's hand in marriage?" 🤮 She's not theirs to give away like a piece of chattel. And if she's not grown up enough to make her own decisions, I don't want her. I didn't ask my parent's "permission", either.

When I did finally propose, I proposed to her. She accepted. Then we told both of our families.

I did. It is a sign of respect because until that moment her family was responsible for her safety. By asking I am also asking them to pass that responsibility to me as the man in her life. Pretty nowadays but both our girls are learning how to be feminine women and how a man should treat a woman to ensure they don't end up like the trash infesting society. And our son is learning how to be a masculine man and how to treat women so he doesn't end up like the trash infesting society.
