Hmm... Well I won't say I stopped believing in love. HOWEVER I can say truthfully that not everyone is looking for love...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mxIHL6d-RMI've been deeply infatuated with girlfriends quite a few times. Infatuation is the feeling that people associate with love and it's glorious.
Then, when I was 36, met a 30 year old named Petra. We wound up living together for over a year. She was the first woman I ever loved with my heart and soul. She loved me, too.
Unfortunately being life-long partners was not meant to be. We separated for reasons that had nothing to do with cheating, falling out of love, or anything mean. It's complicated.
For months after our separation, I felt more pain than ever in my life before or since. It took me over a year to pull myself together.
I met my future wife when I was 40 and discovered a new kind of love - warmth, safety, stability, security, loyalty, complete trust, and open communication. We've been married now for going on 27 years, have had a LOT of fun, and built a wonderful life together. We are partners in life and best friends. I would be lonely and miserable without her.
Petra found me on Facebook about 18 years after we parted and we even spoke on the phone. Hearing her voice made my heart melt. We couldn't be together, but being in touch and knowing she was happy was wonderful.
Then, about five years later, I read that she had died from a sudden medical problem at age 55. I was devastated. A bright light in the world had gone out. She was an extraordinary woman.
I still love her. I will always love her and will never forget her. But that doesn't diminish the love I have for my wonderful wife.
I count myself very lucky to have been loved by girlfriends when I was young, and especially by Petra. And I couldn't be more fortunate to have met my wife, the woman who adores and looks up to me, and is dedicated to me and our marriage. I couldn't admire her more. Her love has changed my life.
