If you are exclusive and they've told you they don't even want you flirting with anyone, then that would be cheating. If you're in an open relationship and they've given you the go-ahead to have sex with someone else, then that would not be cheating.

for me, it's catching feelings for someone or touching someone out of a defined group. Of course, I don't mind a handshake, but rest is obviously not needed. His friends come to a specific category, and I don't control it. It's for him and his conscience to decide.

Anything that’s outside of the confines of the relationship, generally it differs from couple to couple. In my relationship, it would be kissing, or sex that would be cheating.

There are other things that could be on the verge too, such as seeing or talking to someone else secretly, even if nothing physical is involved.

There is also such a thing as emotional cheating, which could include some of the above. But that’s a topic for another conversation.
