It can be both , just depends on whether that person acts on it or not. Emotional cheating can be just as bad or worse than physical cheating , because that person is allowing another person to invest their time into them, instead of investing time into their partner instead. Emotional cheating can result in pushing your partner further away from you , because you are allowing someone else to come in between you and your partner. Which will make you a selfish disrespectful partner, by allowing this other person to come in between you both and your relationship , that you chose to be in , in the first place , So if your partner starts to feel like they lost you and can no longer talk to you and they feel like you aren’t listening to them or hearing them , you are the reason that occurred , because you are accepting of someone else over your partner. That other person is going to tell you things to pull you further away from your partner , so they can have their way with you instead , primarily just to get you in the bedroom. If they succeed in achieving that goal , they more than likely won’t stay with you because they already know you are vulnerable for temptation. Learning to resist temptation for your partner , is only hard to do for selfish people that only care about themselves , Someone that truly loves you will not hesitate to resist temptation for you. So you should do the same for them if you want to experience true love with someone. Relationship only work when 2 people choose each other over everyone else in this world. Making each other your top priority and removing selfishness for each other.

Its both, It usually starts as Emotional, actively withdrawing from their spouse/partner, not doing the 101 small things that act as the glue in a relationship, as it progresses into the physical and the physical interaction with the spouse/partner, that is usually when the spouse/partner really starts to get they feeling that their spouse/partner is cheating on them, If they are lucky they might get that feeling earlier when their spouse/partner is just starting in the Emotional stage and is able to derail the affair before it gets too far along.
