How many times have you loved?

Question

I think I have loved twice.

I loved my ex.

And recently I kind of fell for someone else. I think It will be fair to say I fell for him.

It felt great to have had this feeling again.

Let me tell you, it feels amazing to fall in love after first love.

And while it’s ended, it still gave me the fuel and the love of life.

one: my sister. It wasn’t like gross or sexual. It was this intense loyalty. I had always thought my future lover would be just like a friend to me as she was but even more with the benefits of being male.

she betrayed my loyalty though so that had run its course. She had other siblings she gravitated to. Older sister and all.

two: my mother. Was the most safe love that made me think of selflessness and empathy. Compassion. And one where I felt safe and understood. Until I saw her flaws. No love would ever really resemble hers I do suppose.

three: a friend who helped me learn being myself was okay. The first time I was unfiltered and able to show the darker sides of myself without being judged. I learned a new thing about myself and grew into a new version because of him. He was always positive which I translated into kindness or liking but he was a toxic guy and not a really good friend in the end. I suppose he was just very uncommitted.

four: someone online I had believed was as intelligent as myself and I could brainstorm and bounce things off of. Achieve a new mental plane with and maybe some slight understanding and exciting sexuality. I realized they were a fake and they led me on. They were a massive poser or something other that was chaotic and very unhealthy. I wrongly assumed they were smart because of this middle ground meanwhile they were stuck there and could never make any real conclusions and also couldn’t commit to anyone either.

five: someone also online who sought me out claiming I was so “different.” And mentioning this stuff about spirituality mixed with aged wisdom I never heard of. My curiosity led me to further discussion. I rushed into it and found he lied about his age and lo and behold it shouldn’t have been surprising he lied about his feelings towards me. I felt safe with him and I suppose my clinginess was very detrimental to myself then. I’m glad it didn’t work as it never should’ve happened but it was a major lesson.

six: my baby. The one who by far more than any other has always been kind to me, gentle, loving, and a friend. We’ve seen each other through tough times and he has always talked nice to me and with me, listened when I spoke without rushing me and protective of me. He’s offered me what no other human has and so devotedly and lovingly. It has been one of the longest relationships I’ve been in and I have hope for it. It has potential and shows promise.

What is love?

Seriously, what is love? If the special relationship You've got with Your parents, grandparents, siblings and other family members does count, then I've loved once and I'm not going to abandon this love.

Now, if we mean romantic love... The number is 0. I've been infatuated in a few girls in my past to varying extent, but it was never love. Couldn't have been. It was basically impossible for me to even actually get in touch with said girls, so the situations could never leave the stage of a childish and shallow infatuation.

At this point, I'm not sure if I'm even capable of this romantic kind of love anymore. I somehow reject the concept altogether. There is a certain girl I... appreciate interacting with, I guess. However, it does not seem She feels exactly the same, and unless I can be (almost) sure of Her reciprocation of my potential feelings, I'm going to keep a tight lid on them. I mean... I might subconsciously love that girl, but my mind straight out rejects all these feelings and I do not act on them. The one thing I do is try to find a mutual free time slot for us to meet, but it's not going well recently, and even when it worked out better, I was hesitant to express any radical emotions. Sure, She brings an honest smile to my face, but She is somewhat reserved and unless She becomes a bit warmer, I shall not dare to ask Her to officially be my girlfriend. I sure do like Her, and that sympathy is definitely unusually strong and... detailed, but I'm actively taking down any mental notes of me possibly loving Her. Maybe this peaceful, gentle relationship we have is the best I can get, after all.

I've was in several infatuated relationships when I was young. Infatuation feels like love. I'm not sure if I knew the difference at the time. But the infatuation eventually faded.
