How many times have you had your heart broken to the point you can handle rejection well?

I have only ever had 2 relationships in my life. I'm 31, and the first relationship lasted 8 years. The reason for the breakup was me initiating it, as I was lead on by false hope for a life together, marriage, and despite talking about it for years, no plans were ever made. Instead, he confessed he would not propose until I provided commitment, meaning he was requesting ME to give up my career I spent 6 years in school for, 2 years of training, and 2 years of doing part time until I actually got opportunity in full time, with benefits, etc.
The only way he knew i was committed to him, was to leave everything behind. All that I worked for, leave my family, my friends, and move 3 hours away where HE bought a home close to HIS mum and dad. His mum drops off meals for him and did his laundry, came by 3x a week to help him clean his home, etc.
I said no, as my career is not only my passion but it is my income and I live 5 min walk away from the office!

I was hurt this relationship ended, but NOT hurt by the fact I would not see my ex again. I was hurt and upset at the time I had spent, YEARS of my life being fooled by this man, being lead on with hope, false promises, and no matter what I did, it was not good enough for him, unless I moved in to be his full time girlfriend, to cook and clean and give up my career, schooling, educational achievements that got me my job.

That heartbreak hurt big time, as i lost the best years of my life to someone who did not appreciate it. THAT hurt me more than not ever seeing my ex again, or having that friendship with my ex I had.

Heartbreaks always hurt, but the opportunities you give to people, your time, your commitment, effort, and love, that is something MANY people will use you for. It hurts more losing all that time, losing yourself, or losing your own happiness, over losing someone who doesn't give a crap about you. Please remember that. <3
