My family likes joking around a lot. My dad, mom, and I can go form serious to joking instantly and back. My girlfriend's family is a lot more serious. It took a while until she realized how we joke. She is now getting better at joking and will join in on occasion.

By serious I don't mean real. I mean you can't have fun as you would with a friend.

I grew up in a sarcastic family so humor makes up part of who I am. The closer I am to you, the more I joke with you (and the more intense the jokes get). It might be a deal breaker for me if I can't joke with my partner or if we don't have at least a similar sense of humor.
