Why would anyone think kissing isn't cheating?

Question

Several years back, I knew someone that thought only sex and other sexual acta was cheating but not making-out.

He didn't consider kissing as too much of a big deal. He didn't think kissing counts as infidelity just because the person didn't share their bodies with others.

Why would anyone think like that? If someone was in a relationship or married, even if it was only kissing, isn't that betrayal too?

I'm with you OP , certainly the kind of kissing I like is , we used to have guys push this line in the strip club , they'd passionately kiss ( completely illegal but happened ) be full on that close to fcking you wouldn't believe it , their erections grinding into the vigina..
Then go to a dance club , do the same to some girl out for a night out , head home at 4am with wedding ring on , saying " how good they didn't cheat " , day in day out I saw this stuff.
Of course passionate kissing is cheating , UNLESS you have an open relationship, in that case all good.

unfortunately there's plenty of things many people don't consider to be cheating

people think cheating is only if sex happens and completely ignores

- emotional cheating / fantasizing / having crush on others

- emails, phone messages, social media texts with obvious flirting

- having / hanging out with friends of the opposite gender consistently

- going to bars, nightclubs, strip clubs dressed in a way to signal singleness

- posting lewd photos online whether shirtless or with bikinis

- constantly gaslighting and labeling the other partner as "insecure"

I think it's a problem, when people use the same word to describe various types of behavior.

Both are bad, but let's be honest. You would much rather find out your partner had kissed someone behind your back, than find out they had slept with someone behind your back.

And what about flirting? Would that be cheating aswell?

Having sex with someone else behind your partners back, might and in my opinion should end a 20 year marriage, but a drunken kiss should not.

Why? because a good majority of people still see kissing as very intimate and should be restricted to a romantic partner.

Realistically it depends on the involved couple but overall most will still see it as infidelity.
