Is there any such love as the one we call ‘Unconditional’ ?

There is no unconditional love, right?

I think there isn’t. For the most part I’ve only ever heard of Unconditional love in Christian atmospheres. So I thought about it & wondered if God really loved us unconditionally. I compared it to my love for my nephew- where I give him more love than I get in return because of his age & all. As well as my love for the family dog. The dog gives on some days little to no love. I mostly give him my love. But do I love THEM unconditionally? The way perhaps God loves his creation?

My last comparison was thinking back to a stuffed animal I loved very much. When a relative of mine had tied up its ears and feet, & laughed, I got mad & took my stuffed animal & hit them with it. 😂 I admit my actions were wrong, but I had felt strong care for that stuffed animal & was hurt they had taken something I loved & made a joke of it. I never loved any stuffed animal as much as that one.

Did I love that stuff animal (incapable of any love to give) unconditionally?

I figured the answer was “NO.”

I may not have given some PREREQUISITE, but there was a condition. The reasons why I loved them. The reasons why we love anything or anyone can be directly linked to the conditions. What if I didn’t find that stuffed animal cuddly & see it as my own? What if I didn’t find my pet adorable/ didn’t see my nephew as family? ALSO incredibly adorable?

Would I still love them? I truly think I wouldn’t.

When we love things. Or people. It’s cause of value, quality, what it can do for us, OR how we view it/them.

We love our friends & family cause they are ours. We know them. They have specific traits & quirks we love them by.

What if all of that were removed? Would we still love them?

Some may say yes, but I think what causes us to love, IS the condition.

-Even in romantic love. If we didn’t have similarities or they didn’t care for us, we wouldn’t exactly love them.

It does exist but maybe not for you. Your idea of love seems if it fits you and your needs without compromise. I say seems because I don't want to come off like I know you. Just basing that on how I read your post. I don't believe that's exhibiting love because love is unconditional. Meaning you might not have experienced love yet.

Unconditional love exists for people that actually accept people for all their good things and imperfections that extends to for their whole lives. One person of two in a relationship might have unconditional love while the other doesn't. That can happen and neither person in a relationship can love the other person and use the relationship for convenience until something better comes along.

Depends on the person's ability to feel love unconditionally. I think some people can't, haven't, and do.

I see what you mean, but at some point you decided it felt you will love someone perhaps forever. What caused you to decide? Make such decision or feel so strongly within?

I think the underlying answer could be the condition. If you loved for no reason you could love anybody and everybody.

My husband knows that I love him and I say why. Because I loved how he looked and was. How he is as a person. His beliefs and everything that makes him, him.

Even as he grows he will always be him. Even as he ages. How he treats me is the biggest factor. So I said you know I’ll never stop loving you cause you’ll always be you. For myself, the reasons I love him don’t seem like they’ll change. Besides I already fell in love with him so if he were to say go blind or lose a limb I’d still love him. I already made my decision, and the reasoning I used was the what had caused me to find him endearing and thus I see as my conditions. In this I feel quite confident despite my age or anything else so no offense in how you may try to picture me and all.

I’m also more solidified in my beliefs because the Ai also worded what I was trying to say almost magnificently. I get Ai is all knowing, right? 😂 but they collect a lot of information and make calculations in the blink of an eye. Maybe faster. So from what I read and how it was constructed. I could see I wasn’t too far off from logic.

We all have needs. When I reflected on god loving and creating imperfection it was cause he needed to give something his love. Maybe I’m false in saying that, but I think god needed humans. Not even us but a created thing to focus his love upon. It’s why some people want children or pets. They want to GIVE their love. And you see many people say this as well.

Some people love their cars or objects that require care and attention to. I think one of the biggest needs we can have is wanting to give our love towards something. How can any of us love without reason? Just absent minded or so? 🤷‍♀️

You can't love and inanimate object. You're using the word to describe liking something. You can like and love people they just mean two different things.

Also, to try to understand God is silly, especially if you believe in God. You would have to understand we couldn't even completely fathom the why behind everything he can do or understand.

You can love someone for a reason or reasons and that can be unconditional. For some it may not be. Meaning if you leave a love one over anything it means it wasn't unconditional.

Many people don't have unconditional love but it can exist and it's not easy.

The only single person that would still love me even if I blew up the world or plotted against the very person would be my mother. Yeah she would still speak to me even if I were to betray her, steal all her money, etc. Then again, there is the condition that I'm her child. If being someone's biological child counts as a trait then I guess that would be natural (not acquired) condition.

The others still have their limits. Obviously I wouldn't ever do such horrible thing but it's still nice to know someone has unconditional love towards you.

My mother's unconditional love towards me reminds me of Ted Bundy's mother. Yeah to that woman, even though he was a monster he was still her son. She didn't disown him.

Yeah I suppose it’s a matter of perception. The being related to having birthed you, myself, him. It’s a bond between newborn and mother. The mother saw the moments of birth and comprehended and gave care to their child. I would view it as conditions, but it does sound nicer being said as unconditional.

- Is there anything they can do that will cause you to block or disown them, any limits? If the answer is yes then your love is conditional. It's not unconditional since blocking and disowning is the opposite of love.
- If the answer is no then that's unconditional love.

The idea of "unconditional love" is basically the same. It is idealising the idea of getting something for free, and that doesn't happen in reality.

No. When you look everything we do is conditional. Parents love their children because of biological reasons. First teen love is just naive attempt to love someone for the sake of being loved back. Dogs love their owner because they get food.

There is — between parents and their kids. The parent loves this little person no matter what and the child receives the love no matter what.
