Two different things. A friends with benefits does not have a title attached to their name. More than likely one of the two has feelings, and those feelings are keeping the sex, and lust going. An open relationship has an established title, they present themselves as a couple, however are willing to let each other have friend with benefit/ hook up situations based on mutual conversation and boundaries

As far as I see, it starts out as the two are more than friends. How long it survives varies. I have 4 sisters and 3 have been married a total of 9 time. One only once. They opened theirs around 1990. They each live in separate trailers next to each other. They have 2 kids and 8 grandkids. 🤷‍♂️

Not really because you still stay together and probably luve together. You aren't just monogamous. I watches the Asle Madison documentary on Netflix. One couple was open about using it to have affairs. They would tell the other person who they were meeting and everything.
