With the increase in cheating and divorce rates, do you think that 24/7 surveillance for couples would be a bad idea?

This might be my most unpopular opinion, but I don't think it's a bad idea. While I don't think it will ever happen, I do believe that 24/7 surveillance would prevent people from cheating almost entirely, other than the people that just don't give a f*** if their partner watches them cheat or not. It would affect other stuff in the relationship too. People would actually be where they say they are and do what they say they'll do.

More surveillance... in any part of society... will not solve problems; I dare to say it'll only increase problems.

Nothing will keep people who have drawn away from each other together.

Surveillance can make it more difficult, yes of course... but it will not prevent it.

Divorces go up because societies are breaking down due to decades of declining living standards as a result of political policies.

Some would say that religion plays a role... of course according those people the 'lack of' religion and faith... but I don't believe that.

People are struggling and stressed out; poor mental health and mental health conditions are on the rise (here in the UK to speak of a 'Mental Health Crisis')... People have less time for each other and focus on themselves instead.

This is, in my opinion of course, the reason why divorces are on the rise.

That, coupled with 'Availability' and 'Choice'; I do believe that due to the rise of Dating Apps, and thus seemingly a greater 'Availability' and 'Choice' people are less willing to invest time into each other, their relationship and thus their marriage.

Why get married in the first place with an attitude like that?
I don't want to live in a surveillance state and I wouldn't be in a relationship in which I was monitored 24/7.
I even disdain the kind of people who want to check their partner's cell phone.

If you can't hold onto someone without keeping them on a leash, you have a problem. You want a prisoner, not a partner.

I'm an honest person. I have ethics. I chose a wife who is honest and ethical. We trust each other completely. Spying would break that trust. But we don't have to spy because we communicate openly and honestly with each other.

Well I've never had any trust issues and have always trusted my partners blindly, but as an overall concept to deter cheating (which a lot of people seem to complain about nowadays), I honestly don't see how it's a bad thing. It's kind of like prenuptial agreements in the sense where you're not assuming it's a failed marriage, but you're safeguarding yourself.

Even though I doubt it will happen in our lifetimes (or who knows... maybe it will), we're already moving in the direction of no privacy. There will be drones scouting everywhere for robbery and murders. Crime will decrease, but privacy will as well.

Yes, it would be a bad idea, because the footage could be tampered with and the system could be hacked. AI could be used to generate false infidelity and false confessions. Criminals would break into it and use it to detect patterns and find information. I could go on, but the bottom line is that it would be a massive invasion of privacy and would be abused immediately.

Infidelity, while disgusting, isn't a crime in most states, although it should be. Infidelity puts the health of the offended spouse at risk, not to mention the ethical aspect of it.

The one thing I might almost agree on is 24-hour surveillance for child molesters or abusers. They have no right to privacy.

That's creepy and a violation of a million rights. If you can't trust the person, just don't be with them. If you know you can't be monogamous, also don't commit to a marriage. Period. So easy.

Or maybe traditional western society was like a well made brick wall & now know-it alls have decided to randomly remove bricks (rules) they didn't like and to replace some bricks with jello. Then they wonder why 'that' other brick they didn't' touch is falling out of place or half of the wall is collapsing. The reason is that very few people are experts in building societies... but everybody is an expert in tearing one down.

What you are thinking of doing is sort of like one of those jello bricks. In the old days the fact everyone agreed certain things had value made all the bricks stronger. You didn't need to spy on your spouse because 100% of your family, friends, neighbors and friends of friends were OBSERVING others out in public all the time and anybody who got out of line was going to be "shamed" (in the modern lingo) which was worse than death.

Don't go making any long term plans that require the society we have now, is my advice.

By the way, as we get closer to a collapse there will be more and more people who actively want to aggressively kill/harm anybody who has any traditional values at all. This is one of the lessons of the mouse utopia experiment. My Mytake on the Zombie Apocalypse has a long video that covers that.

If a person has trust issues that they need to spy on their SO all the time, then maybe they aren't cut out to be in a relationship.

I say, let the chips fall where they may. You can't completely safeguard yourself against these things, but, when you do find out. I find the best reaction is to not say a word and just leave... I think it boils their blood when you don't react. Like the whole relationship never happened.

At least you can walk proudly walk away and say... it wasn't me.

If i wanted to be watched 24/7 i’d live in the big brother house. I dont wanna be on cam like that. I wouldn't mind wearing one of those police cams. That way they can't see me but they can see who i interact with. Lol. Still i wouldn't stay with someone who needs to watch me like a hawk
