Trust me, I've been where you were not more than 2-3 months ago. My ex tried to wiggle back into my life after seeing how successful I had become (no thanks to her, ofc) after she left me for some other guy in 2020 (whom she ALSO lost her virginity to after we'd promised we lose it together), and wanted to "patch things up" and told me insistently how she "made a huge mistake" and that I was "the only guy who truly loved her, stayed with her for almost five years, and made her feel loved".

My best friend practically BEGGED me not to go back to her, but I was an idiot and thought that everyone deserves a second chance. How wrong I was.

Not more than a week later, I started noticing her going back to her old habits. She'd disappear for days with no response and then I'd see her flirty comments on random guys' posts (mutual friends, mostly whom she'd coincidentally not tell we were dating), followed by pictures of them in parties, in a car, at a restaurant, doing stuff together etc. (plans we'd usually make together before she'd back out, saying she had some family affair to go to or a big test coming up or whatever.

So this time, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and I simply blocked her without so much as a goodbye message or a confrontation (as that didn't really work out so well before and she resorted to the typical "she was caught cheating and now she's crying because her mom never loved her, her grandmother died 10 years ago and her dog stepped on a bee")

Sort of. Their circumstances could be completely different going forward, so they might never cheat again. Lots of people cheat when being cheated on or abused, but will stay faithful in normal relationships. You just have to worry if they convince themselves they're being cheated on or abused, then use that as an excuse to cheat.

As a rule though, cheaters are much more likely to cheat in the future. That's why the past matters. Like with players and whores.
