Hands down two people need to have the same values, interests, religion, taste for the same kind of food, both have to have a great sense of humor, both need to listen to the same or similar music, both people have to love the other one and not cheat, both people must be trustworthy and have each other's back, both people have to have a lot of things in common, both people have to be compatible with love making.
I could go on and on about how important it is to have a partner that GETS YOU BECAUSE THEY ENJOY THE SAME THINGS IN LIFE.
They say opposites attract. But I think that saying came from an old wives tale from a hundred years ago. It was a cover up in front of everyone because they didn't want anyone to know that they had absolutely nothing in common and how can you possibly love and be attracted to someone that doesn't have a clue about what makes you tick because they are in their own world.
It's like oil and vinegar to me and I will never believe that opposites attract. It's almost impossible and the odds are against it.
They attract, but they rarely seem to last. Now that I'm in my early 30s, I would prefer to be with someone who shares my values. It also provides the steadiness I need in my life. Naturally, a few deviations are acceptable because they offer balance, but they shouldn't be overly extreme.
@HawkPerception Thank you for the MHO! 😊
When people say "opposites attract", they are looking at a limited set of characteristics - usually those that very often have complimentary pairs. And in this context, they are right. You often get a more introverted person with a more extroverted person. You often get a more frugal person with a more freely spending person. An outdoorsy person and an indoors person. And at the most basic level, it's usually a man and a woman.
But other things, such as morals, values, and life goals need to be similar or at least compatible or you have nearly zero chance at long-term success of your relationship. In these areas, when opposites attract, you just get chaos.
"Opposites attract" just means you are focusing on those differences. Every couple need some things in common. It doesn't necessarily have to be a lot, but they need enough to bind them together and keep the romance alive.
I look back at my longest term relationship and I know to an outsider we probably seemed like opposites. I thought the same thing many times. It wasn't until after it ended that I realized how much we really did have in common. I realized that in some important fundamental ways we were very compatible.
I think "opposites attract" is a convenient saying to use when whatever binds a couple together is not easily apparent or understood.

I mean I would try opposites attract if it was a good fit and everything was right I would try it
I've been working all my life to become someone I can love
Picking and choosing hobbies and habits and forming opinions on the world
Why would I want a partner that’s the opposite of me?
I would much rather be with a likeminded person that gets me at a glance
I used to think I'd want somebody opposite of me
To keep the relationship interesting
Turn out that's what got me bored
And have no self love
Feeling like I wasn't fullt understood by the other person
Who I was dating
Only time we got along me and him
Was mostly just at the beginning of us dating
Now I'm wishing I had somebody more similar
Cuz he wasn't the one for me so I'm alone now
I used to go for the outgoing type because that is attractive but personally I really like people more simillar to me since having more in common helps keep things enjoyable together.
They say opposites attract but I suspect there is some commonality that allows them to interact and become fascinated in the novelty of what the other brings to the table.
Different skills provided by each is a strength that you can draw upon. Together you are stronger.
But it's not always easy to live with.
In the short term it is moving, that adrenaline rush like doing something you shouldn't or smoking in the park as a teen so your parents wouldn't see you. In the long term it usually falls apart depending on what the factor is and in some cases it strengthens the relationship, like Romeo and Juliet.
Opposites do attract. However, opposites don’t necessarily maintain an attraction for an extended duration. The caveat being if they find themselves taking a mutual interest in each of their respective interest or find new shared interest to help their relationship to blossom … so to speak.
I believe your core values and principles should be similar even if you appear different on the surface.
Opposite can attract and be happy together, with the exception of maybe strong religious beliefs or political views
