You may have a preference for the whole "I love you." to be spoken because it might feel more intimate to you. And in my opinion it does feel more intimate to say the full expression.

But, at the end of the day, it's not the technicalities that matter most, it's the intention behind the words.

So as long as you two have sincerity and the right intention behind your words, no matter how you wish to express your love to each other, that's what's important.
