I don't view this in terms of chances, I don't care about second chances, I'm not Jesus and I am not tied to ethics implying that I have to give second chances by default.

I view this in terms of safety, my safety. If someone shows me that they're aren't safe, then I'll look at why. If I decide that their mistake is due to a core part of their personality, then I don't trust their capacity to change. Or if they're able to change, it will be so slow that I don't want to inflict upon myself years of patience, while enduring consequences in the meantime.

So, in practice, there's hardly a second chance with me at all. Because the mistakes I've seen, I consider them tied to a personality. So I left. And when I didn't leave, I shifted from love time to buddy time for instance, since the stakes of a vague friendship are so low that it cannot hurt me at all.

Hiding who they were and lying? I think there's something fundamentally wrong with someone who lies and is dishonest. And I think it's doubtful that they could be honest about anything, especially change.

They'd have to distance themselves from me and make their changes elsewhere. Maybe sometime in the future I could meet them again. But I wouldn't stay in a relationship with them waiting or hoping for change. I don't believe it would happen, anyway.
