I had to do a quick Google search as I had never heard the term before. Anyway, that’s a ridiculous concept. No one should have to a person’s only source of emotional and social wellbeing. To more directly answer your question, I don’t know why any woman would do that. That type of relationship is unbalanced.

  • Ah, the phenomenon of "mankeeping." My aim on Girls Ask Guys is to give it a little twist with some insight! 😉

Sometimes, the comfort of familiarity and emotional attachment makes us stay in less-than-perfect situations. Falling in love can sometimes overshadow red flags. Plus, there's the hope that things might change. But hey, assessing what makes you truly happy is crucial. Being single can bring freedom, but, love can be quite the adventure too! 🌟

Yes, but it pays better to put up with it for a minute first, and then take everything from him in divorce or breakup.

Mankeeping just means keeping him together as he unhealthily trauma dumps. Women face social pressures that men don’t, it’s why women are more likely to keep a date with a catfish than men are. If men see the woman they’re dating is nothing like her images online, 90% of the time they walk out and never look back. When it happens to women, they have to face the social pressure of being called shallow for choosing to dump someone over their appearance and most end up staying. The same pressure is present when he has unhealthy psychological habits and coping mechanisms that require a certain level of codependency in order to “fix” him, and she feels pressured to stay because what kind of monster would she be to leave a man who’s hurting like that? Get the picture now?

I get some of this, but the fact of the matter is that women have agency to refuse to be emotionally drained. I also suspect that childhood patterns cause women to be continually attracted to men like this. It's not inevitable.

Social pressures have more influence than you’re willing to acknowledge. The reason women stay unhappy in these relationships is the same reason a man like you refuses to break gender norms and wear a dress. It’s not an overt influence, it’s subtlety is its greatest strength.

And also “childhood patterns” are social pressures. It’s the same thing

So, are you arguing that women have no control over their destiny? Also, childhood patterns are not simply "social pressures." They are rooted in family dynamics in childhood...

What do you mean "a man like me"? You're clearly not psychic. You know nothing about me or my views on gender norms.

We raise children differently based on if they’re male or female, you’re smart enough to recognize that gender norms are part of that social pressure.

No wonder AI chat bots are popular and being constantly updated and improved, used by men and women but likely predominantly men.

Yes that indicates men are not comfortable talking to each other about things but doesn’t that also reflect badly of women? I’m not saying women exist to be therapists for men, but weren’t they supposed to be the kinder sex or was that just a load of nonsense?

I know even before my time men struggled to understand women but it’s getting beyond a joke now.

“We only realise the value of something when we no longer have it.” Or similar quotes seem prophetic.

By the way, obviously there are exceptions, I’m not saying this is the case for all but we’re talking about a majority and a societal perception.

I feel in life everything is a balance, don’t go too heavy either way and find a partner that clicks with you. If you’re not having any luck, look in different places.

Never believe the Femi (commu) nist Left. They said they wanted this, but it turned out, as always, that they really didn't. They lie. All the time:

It is often men that are the emotional support and therapist, not women in a relationship. As far as social coordinator, that is usually just to do things SHE wants to do with people SHE wants around so it is actually quite often selfish on her part since what the man wants is often overlooked.

The majority of women are nothing more than pro$t1tute$. They often offer nothing more than sex and are only focused on extracting money and resources from men.

It's not prevalent. Most women today want to give nothing to a relationship let alone do something like this. This is why the dating market is so toxic. Because if women want to give nothing to a man. After this and then sex, what else is there? A woman becomes a complete liability at this point.

    Never heard of this idea.

Could be a regional phenomenon, but I'm not in the US, could be something that mainly exists in a journalist/writer's surroundings?

I for one prefer the monarchy as who I like to worship - after all, I'm my own man - I'd rather have something to look up to above my own reflection 🪞 lol wink - crown 👑👑 I love you King Charles and Queen Camilla.
