Does the way someone chooses to leave say more about their character than the way they stayed?

The way someone ends a relationship or connection (with grace and clarity or cowardice) can be a lot more telling about who they truly are, rather than the persona they projected during the relationship. Do you feel you can ever look at someone the same way again if they don’t even have the basic decency or respect for you to communicate why they did what they did? Or does it make you lose all respect for that person instantly despite how they made you feel during the relationship?

I recently got rejected, it took the other person a week and no response. So I took it upon myself to tell them how I felt, said my I'm sorry, and exited. Gave my have fun and good luck speech. Thought that would be it.

Now a month later, and she has unfollowed and is ignoring me. Nothing I can do. I'll just move forward.

During a breakup its likely you'll see someone at their worst, there are a lot of negative emotions running through both of you and people act differently when they are hurt or feeling resentful. I wouldn't go as far as to say that its who they really are deep down im my opinion

Maybe, but where do you draw the line? If they can act this way when they are hurt with a total disregard for your thoughts and feelings, isn’t it selfish? And in a way good that they left now

I draw the line at destroying property and other forms of revenge. You're right in the fact that not caring for the person you are breaking up with is selfish, but that's not a bad thing in itself. Sometimes, you need to act selfish to survive. This is just my opinion though, and I dont know your situation. They could turn out to be a real asshole

Thankfully, nothing that bad. Just more of a silent exit/ghosting/blocking the other person is what I meant. I mean if I’ve ever cared about anyone, at the very least I would try to have one last conversation to understand and explain things, but after an action like this, I feel that they were not at all what I had made them up to be in my head and they obviously have no respect for me

I would shift the lens a little bit. The fact that you would uphold some standard of communication to take care of another person's feelings through a breakup makes you exceptional. Above normal, while his behavior is something I would expect if they had hurt feelings + an avoidance personality

Thank you, that’s very kind of you. And you’re absolutely right, I also believe he is kind of avoidant, but honestly that’s not my problem. If he can’t grow up and take accountability, then it’s better that he’s out of my life for good.

In some ways. I had an extremely messy situation with one girl. We both have ways we could have reacted and responded better. We never were in an actual relationship, so I would be willing to start with a clean slate.
