How do narcissists pick their victims?

This is a very long story of 6 people I know (including myself) who all fell victim to narcissistic abuse. Different races, different sizes, different cultures. How do you/they/or someone you know pick their prey? What are the qualities you/they/narcissists look for? I have my opinion, and I know I am right. One got out on her own. One is me. Two listened to me, and he and she are out now (yes, women are narcissistic too). They are paranoid a. f. but doing fine. One is still trapped and too weak to get out. And the last one just got out and is still dealing with the drama and trauma. The two that got out: when they started dating again, they ended up with Narcissists AGAIN. Luckily, they saw those signs in time. Again, how do you pick?

It's a natural attraction. Just like when you go online you're more likely to meet people similar to you in the places you visit. People who are easy victims for narcissists they just find each other. I don't think the narcissist has to actually personally pick. It's like a scam online people self select. The people who are not easy victims they will not put up with a narcissist anyway.

Abusers pick their victims based on their personalities. They all have a penchant for people-pleasing, they make themselves small, they’re overly considerate of others and do everything possible to not be seen in a negative way, those are most abusers go-to victims of choice.

Usually by assessing the herd. Once I spot one wandering away from the safety of the group, I'll sneak up through the jungle to close the gap. Once closer I can get a better judge of size and health. Wouldn't want too much of chase, you know.
