I had a really good friend who broke up with his girlfriend to pursue a girl he dated in the distant past. She was a horrible person and treated him like shit. Movie level shit.

Engaged. Fake pregnancies. Cheating. etc.

I told him I'd only bring it up once before proceeding to tell him I thought it was a bad idea and not in his best interest. I put it gently as I could while still voicing my opinion.

At the time he seemed to take it on the chin well enough. However, afterwards he never reached out to me again. We've spoken briefly over the years since. Christmas wishes and birthdays, etc.

But ultimately, the friendship died that night.

I later learned through the grape vine, she broke up with him not long after they hooked up the second time and he got back together with the girl from his previous relationship.
