I personally think it’s that people continue to do things that are acceptable/normal for a single person to do.

A lot of unnecessary fervor about “autonomy” was stirred up a few decades ago when common folks started picking up on psycho-babble. Suddenly everyone was afraid of codependency and insisted that, despite being married and having children, they deserved to express themselves like single people. That’s not how being married with children works. Your life ceases to be about you and now it’s about your partner and your children.
It’s gotten worse instead of better. Women letting their babies die in broiling cars while they “self care” in a salon. Dudes getting drunk and passing out in a lawn chair while his kid drowns in the pool.
They should all be executed as far as i’m concerned.
If you’re not ready to give up selfishness, don’t commit to a relationship and definitely don’t have kids.

Too much independence is just as bad as too much dependence in a relationship

These days people want it both ways

They want the status of dating but are unwilling to accept that the role of partner requires a few major changes in life choices and behaviors

Sometimes it’s inconvenient
And that needs to be ok
Being unable to handle a slight inconvenience for the sake of your partner just means the whole thing won’t survive long

I sometimes have the feeling that people don't really want to commit to one person, and be kinda responsible for another human and also ad if they don't want to work on their problems... like some people are saying "I'm who I am and if you don't like it leave" instead of taking in good constructive criticism and facing problems and trying to have an open conversation and trying to find a solution for both of them.
Or like going to therapy and working on maybe childhood trauma but no they take it out on their spouse or on the world itself and therefore never even end up in a relationship. But well what do I know lol

I agree, behaving as a single person is definitely problematic, if not a deal breaker altogether. I’d also add baggage to the list, which includes unhealed trauma, trust issues, insecurities, etc.

sure, people will claim to want an "equal" relationship until shit hits the fan and then it becomes a competition, then it becomes all about creating "peace" and then respect is lost and everything else goes downhill

however even from the very beginning there is no equality hence a terrible foundation for the relationship

No benefits for most guys. Things men desire in women like exclusivity and virtue are out the window nowadays with so many women acting like sluts, having sex outside of relationships and only a small amount of guys benefit from this. Women aren't relationship material, so men have either stopped dating or date but don't commit, because why pay full price for someone that's been passed around... So few women worthy of relationships nowadays.
