If you dont want to be involved with them as far as any emotion then it would be best to just avoid them. Me personally I never say its a good idea to stay in contact with an ex with the exception of when their are kids involved but even then conversing should be kept minimal. Overall id say it just gets in the way of you moving on. Even if you or the other currently dont have residual feelings, shit always happens behind the scenes.
