I believe in patterns choices and consequences of them, they do have a meaning, and you can not escape consequences once you or someone else or something has made some choices along the way leading that way. Nothing just happens. I don't buy that, there is always a series of actions, choices before that. I don't think it is a higher power doing that, fate.

I think God has a plan, and he knows whether we will follow his plan or not, but ultimately we have free will and can choose whether to follow the plan or not. He is all-powerful and he could just reach out and make us follow the plan, but he usually doesn’t do that because he respects our agency.

In my experience, there are plenty of things that we know are absolutely meant to be, yet somehow still never come to pass. You can put relationships that should have developed, but never did, because one person ignored another's love, at the top of that list. Years later, they realize they'd likely be a lot happier, had they just simply given that person, and that relationship a chance.
