Food can be personal, especially when your partner put time and effort into cooking for you… but I’m curious how you guys would handle this situation lol. Would you prioritize honesty, spare their feelings, or try to find a middle ground?

I sorta did that when I was a kid. Catsup soup!!
Mom was going to be at the store or something for several hours and left us with dad who had no idea what to feed us if she came home after dinner time. She told him to make a pot of Lipton chicken noodle soup. We loved that!
Dinner time came and she still wasn't home so, dad put on a pot of water to make the soup. What he didn't seem to know was that inside each pack is a wad of chicken flavouring! What he also didn't know was that she was quite fond of taking some of that to make chicken gravy with when we had roasted chicken!
The water was boiling and it was time to pour the noodles into it, so he did. But, there was no flavouring in the pack!! JUST noodles!! He cooked the noodles for the required time and then served it to us. "This isn't the way mom makes it! It doesn't taste right!" He said, "Just put catsup in it." We did and that made it worse!! But, we ate it!!
When mom came home and found out what we ate, she told him he didn't put any of the flavouring in it!! And we never let him forget about his catsup soup!!!
R. I. P., DAD!! He died 20 years ago as of two days ago.
Thank you!!
@FunkyMonkee
My mom always made me Lipton chicken noodle soup when I was a young girl. She never bought Campbell's.
So that's what I always bought and my son liked it as well.
I just wish it had more noodles in it. But it did taste good.
Yep! The little soft square of the chicken flavoring was at the very bottom of the packet and ya kinda had to dig for it. If you didn't know it came in the packet like your Dad didn't know, well, ya can't blame him huh?
I wonder if they still sell it?🤷🏼♀️
@sage2021 The noodles were the best part. Eventually they made it with twice the noodles. Of course, you can always buy a bag of egg noodles of the same type and size and ad a handful or two to the pot.
Yes, they still make it.
At the food bank, sometimes they have small bags of egg noodles and I can get one of those 16 oz. boxes of chicken broth, boil that in a pot and then add the whole bag of noodles (2, maybe 3 handfuls) and, when it's done, you've got a pot of soup that's almost nothing but noodles. By the time you're done eating the noodles, there's MAYBE a spoonful of broth left!
Funny, I was just talking about this with a friend this weekend.
My ex sister-in-law was the worst cook ever, literally living off of recipes from the back of cracker boxes. Of course I didn't blame her. If you don't want to be fat, NEVER learn how to cook anything good. (Simple, right?) She was a smoothie gal who went to beauty school, so while she always looked FABULOUS, but didn't belong in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, I've always been taught a gal has to know how to cook bc a woman is the heart of the home and the kitchen is the heart of the house. So I've always cooked and known my way around pretty much any kitchen.
The day I had to go meet the family (a very big deal over the holidays) she made a cake out of crackers. 🤢🤮 But I politely had a bite then claimed that I was full bc I'd eaten before I'd gotten there not realizing there was a full dinner being served.
On the way home my soon-to-be hubby and parents-in-law took me to the nearest diner and apologized for not feeding me beforehand bc she was known as the worst cook of the county though she did prepare everything with affection for us.
The rest of the year that those two were married I'd stop in with meal "starter kits" and help her out a little. Not that I was the best cook at the time, but I knew how to make at least the basics like roast chicken and a few sides. SMH.
tell him It don't taste good, I mean there's a difference between not good and not being able to eat it since it taste so awful, if he taste horrible and I can't eat it then I wouold tell him if it's not very good then I guess it depend if he's very susceptible or no but I'm usually an honest person without being mean either c-becuase there no point in telling things meanly
I always ask for honest ratings when I cook and I'm very critical of my own cooking as well. I'd say I'm a 6/10 cook. I get it right about 60% of the time, it's edible 35% of the time, and it's terrible and barely edible 5% of the time. It doesn't hurt me when others say it because it's the truth.
If my partner cooks something and I don't like it, I'm gonna tell them. Otherwise how would they improve? I'm not gonna be with a girl who can't handle honesty. I'm not gonna force myself to eat something I don't like 😂
As a relationship coach, my goal is to help foster understanding and communication. In this spicy scenario, think of comedy as the secret ingredient! Start with gratitude for the effort – “You cooked this with love…” 😜 Then, channel your inner Gordon Ramsay and gently suggest cooking together next time. This can lead to shared laughs and might even spice things up, ensuring the next meal isn’t a recipe for disaster. Communication and kindness are always the main courses! 🍝❤️

Honesty is always the best policy.
I think this premise is nonsense though. If she’s my partner, she knows what i like and what i don’t. Also, chances are that our palettes are not going to be terribly different. So if she likes something, it’s highly unlikely that i will hate it. Unless i simply can’t stomach it, the food won’t go to waste and i’d say something like “That’s not going to become a favorite” with a chuckle.
Luckily I don’t eat dinner so this will never ever be a problem. But in situations that are high risk emotion- ambiguity / low resolution- visibility, I’d probably resort to some combination of humor and sex.
I guess tell then to try cooking from lust next time or get them a cook book.
I dated an indian women once. She made me a special homemade meal when we went out together. Like I thought going for lunch was going to be part of the date... then she pulls Tupperware out of a bag with like warmers in there keeping it hot. I wasn't about to say no...
I forced myself to eat every single. grain. of. rice. in that container and smile doing it. Lol, It was really, really hot and not my style. It was torture but her and I had a lot of fun together. we last a lot longer then that meal. The whole experience was one heck of an adventure! Looking back the meal tasted terrible but was so worth getting to know her. 😊
I’m a food person. It’s really hard for me to not eat something because I don’t like it. She would be able to read my face after tasting it and that alone would say enough.
I’d basically ask what she put in it. Any level of criticism wouldn’t be necessary, really.
I seriously love all food so it would have to be something extreme like frog legs or something lol 😂
Ask her how she rates it? , thank her for making the effort , it was thoughtful her going to the effort ahead did but tell her it simply wasn’t to my taste.
This has happened to me many times in relationships , usually she agrees it doesn’t taste great and we laugh about it
I’ve never been in a relationship with a woman that could cook , and I think they would all agree with that whereas I have always enjoyed cooking and I’m pretty great at it. i do I do all the main cooking , I will let her make me a sandwich or boil an egg , that’s about it.
I would not be concerned about the taste , I want to know what's in it which is far more important , eg they better not have added sugar , if ingredients is okey , then no problem , I will give it a reheat.
Frankly with the ingredients check , it's impossible for it to be " awful " and they would have known all this before they began.
If it had things in there that I don't allow in my body , then I'm not consuming it.
I don't remember a situation where the topic would be sensitive enough to make me spare her feelings lol
I don't remember a situation where it tasted awful anyway so... I think I'll handle it like any similar failure situation, with humor
I would try to break the truth to her with compassion and a smile. Make a joke of it. Take the pressure off. And praise her for the effort. Offer to cook with her next time. Make learning to cook a thing we can do together. Build skills and the relationship through a shared experience. Make it a win/win and a positive experience you can both laugh at in the future.
I feed it to the dog in small portions under the table when she's not looking while I smile and nod and that's why I do most of the cooking and please don't tell her I did that.
Ran out of pot plants?
Everyone knows I'm a picky eater but I will at least try it. I usually just give a neutral response. If they're really curious, I'll just be honest.
In the past I played the game...
Oh yes honey... I love vegan pizza..
Now I wouldn't say I hate her cooking but I would play off my diet/macro needs. Unless it's seafood. I hate seafood and would just tell her.
You have to be honest otherwise it will torture you for the rest of your life. Just be sweet about it and maybe give some advice. For example, I don't like such salty food as my sister does, so I had to tell her and we are up to speed on the fact.
I ask them for the recipe, and then I give it to somebody that actually knows what they're looking at to see if we can do something to make it a little bit better. I certainly do not share the fact that I found it to be awful with her.
I'm very easy to cook for. If a woman goes above and beyond I'll appreciate. If there's too much salt or whatever I can mention it, but chances are great I will take seconds and ask her to do it again.
Definitely try and find a middle ground.. Cause I ain't suffering just to spare feelings.. LOL.. I'mma tell her that it's not the best and be honest with her like I'm sure she would want me to be..
I'd be honest. Has happened before and I've cooked some awful food for him too throughout the years. Especially when we first moved out. That was a disaster often.
I would create a diversion and sneak it into the trash.
I’ll tell her the truth on the second time she does it by the way, do you want me to answer your what does your voice sound like question
I tell them it tastes awful... its not that big of a deal. My partner once made pasta salad and poured a shit load of balsamic vinegar in it. I couldn't eat it
Maybe you should try to cook together sometimes and you can give them some tips, this way you won't hurt your partner's feeling
It's about how you deliver the message... But either way not gonna suffer for the rest of my life just to not hurt his feelings lol
baby why don't you have a taste? here? how does it taste? i thought so too.
Try to eat it (I seldom find most food tastes bad) and can handle spicy and bland food without drama.
I am very picky over food, so I would have to say something.
I'm gonna eat it.. or at least try to just smile through the pain.
Sometimes, you have to be cruel to eat well.
Probably a pithier construction: You have to choose between eating well and sleeping well.
As with many things in life.
I would try to find a middle ground, break it to them gently and maybe then cook with them to replace it with something we made together
Been there, show your appreciation but never lie to them tell them the truth no matter if it hurts!
I would say "I don't know what you put in this but it tastes terrible" and keep eating
I'm single, so I don't have to worry about that :P
I would eat and act like I enjoy, she is certainly going to ask me how it is, if it is that bad, she will know!
I will eat as much as I can and I'll talk to her about it later.
Tell them it tastes like shit...
I'm Gen ❌, we call it like it is.
Add some chilli sauce over it and voila! Now it's delicious!
Tell her the truth as always. Then order a takeaway
If you need to yark, try and make it to the bathroom.
if you love her stay calm and enroll her for a cooking class.
Eat it and get use to eating shit, what relationships are all about.
Thank her for making dinner
Give tactful yet constructive feedback.
Eat out a lot !!!
Won't eat it.
break up
