My ex called me that lol explains a lot.  The more we talk as friends the more I learn what went wrong in our relationship which is great because I know not to do that in the next one.

Well look in your younger years you went through some thing. That hurt you and you never figured it out . Or you did but you didn't want to except it. You held on to it because it made you feel something   It had to be with a male figure someone that meant something to you. And now with your relationships you are still holding on to the past and that makes you hold on to the male figure that is not in your life again even if he's in another relationship you will put yourself through a ll that pain just to have him in your life so he doesn't leave you  Here is the thing about this are you a cinger stage 5. I dont like a title just because someone called it that. I don't think that's the case at all   Just like your ex calling you a stage 5 clinger. Thats just as bad  Why not just be honest and call it the way it is. You have so much love inside of you. It's unreal, but the same time you have anger. You have hurt. You have pain  And the reason why you're single right now, and this should be the reason why you're single. The only reason is because you have not dealt with that yet. I'm always hesitant to answer some of your questions since I do not have the experiences you have. I've only been in 1 serious relationship in my life so there's really nothing I can ever say that you don't already know. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I would like to believe that I would be strong enough to not want to be with anyone who didn't want to be with me but since I still even cling to some of my childhood toys I would prolly desperately dig my nails in and cling to the bitter end and then hopefully maybe learn something from it after 20 years or so.

Yes, I have, as far as being overly affectionate lol The funny thing is, when we ended it, he sent me a text about a week after we broke up and said how much he misses my clinginess 😂 It's just like me with him. I never liked his drinking but I missed how he would always make me laugh after he had a few. He was actually a nice drunk 😂

Sounds like your ex was a bit of a dick.

And it’s hard (no pun intended) when you’re in a relationship because you have to be a bit of a dick, but not a total pushover either. It’s like riding a bike. Sometimes a general level of dickery that is great with one partner can cause deep offense to another partner.

A long time ago I watched a movie called “the Tao of Steve” and he had three dating rules (1) be excellent (2) be desire less (3) be gone. If you follow those rules, no one will call you a clinger.

LOL, I usually get accused of the opposite of being a stage 5 clinger. It takes me a long time to get to know people and longer to really get comfortable with them as a fixture in my life. My communications tend to be short and direct. And I don't chase.

'Clinging' has a pejorative connotation because it implies fear of loss. Not an issue for me. If I'm out, I'm out.

The landlord called us that a hanger on, trying to get us out of his little crap hole After we lost our childhood home, we had to stay in somebody’s backyard for a while until we got established.
