For the most part yes, because once your heart is broken by someone that you thought loved you the same , it makes it harder for you to fully trust someone again , especially if you gave your last relationship your all , and it still backfired on you and ended badly. Now that I am single again, after a very long time , I am now taking baby steps with meeting someone new , because I don’t want to experience the same shit my ex put me through whatsoever , and plus I want to have peace of mind before I give my heart fully to someone again. so I kind of have my defense walls up protecting my heart from being broken again. But I would love to fall in love with someone again , but it’s going to take time , unless they can prove to me they are nothing like my ex. But unfortunately from my experiences and things I have witnessed through the years with girls’ , a lot of girls’ are the same or similar as each other , and sadly a lot of girls’ are selfish people. So until I meet a non selfish girl , my ass is staying single. I prefer FWB’s with a girl first , before anything else , because rushing into a relationship with someone is stupid to do because it’s just infatuation but you truly don’t know that person whatsoever, other than they are good looking , and they seem kind and respectful and fun to be around , but in time their true colors will more than likely shine and that’s when you will know if they were honest with you or bullshitting you the whole time
I assume you're talking about a general toxic relationship in this case as opposed to one riddled with abuse and trauma?
If so, I would say that it wouldn't necessarily hinder your ability to get into a new relationship but it'll definitely hinder your ability to foster a healthy one. There is a high likelihood that your toxic behaviours that was commonplace in the previous relationship might carry over into the new one regardless of whether you intended for it to or not. How you would react when jealous, upset, angry and so on could potentially be toxic in nature since such a response was already ingrained and ultimately it could rub off on your new partner.
But the fact that you're already aware of the fact that your past relationship was far from exemplary means that you're able to learn or improve on how you should deal with difficult situations and how you should control your emotions moving forward.
All the best brother!
Life is a highway 🛣️ a learning constant learning
Thanks for MHO
It nearly did for me. For a bit of history, I had only dated other girls my entire life until finally giving guys a chance in my 40s. I tried a ltr with a guy which lasted for a year before he ended up cheating on me and it nearly swore me off from guys forever.
Thankfully months later I got a message from a guy on a dating app I was on that interested me. We talked for about a month before we finally went on a date. As of today, we are celebrating three very happy years together.
Thankfully I didn't just listen to that voice in my head that said to give up on them. Im with someone I love fiercely and he treats me with thoughtfulness and kindness.
No, I just waited until I met the right person.
My aim on GAG is to decode relationships so your love life stops feeling like a horror movie sequel.
Yes, a bad past relationship can make it harder. You become guarded, hyper-aware of red flags, afraid of lovebombing, ghosting, betrayal. But it also gives you standards, self-respect, and boundaries. Healing, not rushing, and choosing better actually makes the next relationship healthier, safer, and way more real.

Only if you carry your life's baggage around with you like it was gold. Blaming someone you just met for something someone else did to you 10 years ago is just stupid. Learn to let go of the shit that weighs you down.
Yes, I've met a lot of arseholes. Fortunately, I have a circle of lovely guy friends.
I've never had a bad relationship. You learn a lot from everyone you are close to. There is an abundance of quality people out there.
Surely it's no different than buying a 🍋 lemon - be it a car, be it a brand, be it a product
Life isn't perfect - so try try try again - no advice
Same way people shop for different brands, they go and try something new , they buy a competitor brand or they upscale or downscale 😝😋😅
It can if it makes you afraid of letting a new person into your life.
It hasn't yet. I think I've grown after every relationship I've been in..
Preach 🙌🙏 life lessons
No. Why would I blame the next woman for the actions of the previous one?
Dumb people and damaged personalities do that exact thing all the time. They just can't let go of the bad stuff. It's really self destructive.
Yes initially. But I never brought old baggage into a new relationship.
I actually never had a relationship.
Absolutely!
