How true is this statement, My money is my money, and his money is my money?

One of my friends mentioned this phrase. I said, "If that's true, then if he is struggling can i assume you wouldn't help your husband?" She said "Its not my job to help him, If he is struggling and needs help, it means i need to divorce him." I responded by saying "Whats wrong with you, you're supposed to be taking care of each other." And she called me a pick me.

This more often than not seems to be the attitude of a lot of women. They dont view marriage as a partnership, they view it as a one way street where all of the benefit goes to them, and screw their husbands.

Suffice it to say, she is not my friend any more. I made her mistakes, and lost a good man. i won't be friends with people who have that kind of attitude any more.

Low-class, gold digger mentality. Women fought for equal rights and the right to work and vote. You all have the same potential to make money as men now, so expecting a man to provide is an outdated way of thinking. If you want a man to provide financially, you should be bringing something else to the table. A relationship is a partnership/teamwork. Not a free lunch.

Wow. Yeah this kind of attitude is becoming more common, Thankfully there are a healthy number of women, my wife included that aren't like that. I actually have to beg her to spend money on her self. But she was also raised by a mother and a father. that kind of attitude your ex friend has is the result of being raised by a single mother.

Your ex-friend’s mindset is a massive red flag. “My money is mine, his money is mine” is entitlement, not love. Marriage is partnership, not financial lovebombing followed by emotional freeloading.

You were right: you care, you give, you support. That doesn’t make you a “pick me”, it makes you wife material.

Well, in the event that there's one person managing the household expenses then there usually is some sort of joint account, but i don't think it's intended to be a carte blanche for either the guy or the gal.

In healthy relationships you are there to support each other. If that's not the case, you're a golddigger. Men have struggles too. If you have no other interest than his money, you're a shallow, bereft person who is unlikely to have a rich relationship life. Good on you to remove such people from your life.

If a person has nature of a criminal who doesn't care if others don't play fair with them fair, this statement might be true.
Personally I think short term gains need to be really profitable to abandon my personal moral compass otherwise I play fair. A guy who probably will never earn more than me will unlikely fit in category of tempting financial gain.

It depends. If you are both working, then both contribute 50% of their salary into the kitty. Of course, 50% of $100,000 would be more than a salary of $50,000. It the wife is a stay-at-home mother with no job, then she is exempt from paying any into the pot, unless she has some kind of side hustle that she does when the kids are in school. Normally, the husband is the head of the household and the breadwinner. The wife is the chief cook and bottle washer, who takes care of the household and any children. Sometimes that's a tougher job than a 9 to 5 one, because hers is 24 hours a day as kids have no set hours and illness can hit them at any time of day.

That is a very socialist point of view which from my relationship experience of over 40 years, seems to be the default setting for most women in a relationship/marriage.

Though there is always the odd one or two who reject it completely, and those women oddly enough are the ones who have stable long term relationships/marriages with next to zero friction, and actually get on with their partner as a team,tHAT IS A VERY SOCILIST

Yes my money is my money. But that doesn't say anything about how I decide to spend it. If my partner is in need or if we decide to have a joint account or anything else.. That's all fine.

A girlfriend tried this on me. She spent everything she earned and after a short space of time she made it clear she would spend everything I earnt.
