Best example would be the US foreign policy. Since the Vietnam war where the US learned the hard way that invading foreign countries was a bad thing, it has learned absolutely nothing for more than 60 years and the US still invades countries in 2026 (Venezuela, Iran just to name 2 of them).
What have the leaders learned from past mistakes? You are absolutely correct. They are repeating the very same mistakes over again.
The same thing applies for individual humans. One would think that a mistake has taught not to do it over again but this is not true.
Yes it is, because we do not have to only learn from our own mistakes. So you can learn from other people's mistakes and avoid them yourself.
TBH most people have no idea that you even exist unfortunately in this new society but I wouldn't worry about what other people think they don't pay your bills
