Eventually it does….. This is the demise of so many relationships is that one partner becomes lousy in the relationship while the other puts the effort in. Eventually, that other person becomes exhausted and drained until they become completely unhappy. Some people think they can do it all….. if I just do this or that for my wife or husband he/she will do this for me but it doesn’t work long term.

Once someone’s checked out the damage is usually done unless both people are willing to put the effort in. But relationships including marriage has become pretty disposable. If someone can find an easy out at some point someone will take it.

No. It fades because the excitement of being with a new person and in a new relationship has worn off. Your SO hasn't done anything wrong and neither have you. You're just gotten used to each other and that's simply how relationships work. Sure, it might seem dull and monotonous at times, but there will also be a season of renewal. A season of dryness will then follow, but the renewal will come again later. There is a rhythm, a cycle to relationships. People just need to accept that.

Relationships that go on autopilot — where both people stop pursuing each other, stop creating novelty, and stop expressing desire and appreciation — will experience passion fading as a predictable consequence. However, passion rarely fades with naturally passionate people. It never has with my husband and me, and we have been together since 2009.

Passion fades when there’s a lack of effort. It’s hard to keep the fire going when the spark is going out.

Without defining what passion really is, I believe passion and efforts cannot interact the way you put it.

I think passion is chaotic and operates outside the realm of efforts. Outside the realm of anything at all in fact, since passion would be independent. Also, I don't believe in efforts unless we define and agree on what efforts truly mean.

If the passion is still there you don't need effort. But passion doesn't last, which is where effort comes in.
