Why do exes come back after ghosting you with no explanation?

Weird things have happened to me where someone will stop talking to me for no apparent reason other than that they want to move on. Then they go no contact for say a year or two and try to come back with no explanation why. They say they just wanted to say hi or whatever but then they were not civil about it before. Usually i block these guys and never welcome them back since they had put me in the back burner for so long.

This is actually a pretty common pattern in modern dating, and it usually has less to do with “deep feelings” and more to do with avoidance, convenience, and impulse. Your reaction. blocking and not reopening that door, is completely valid.

Someone who disappears without explanation and returns casually usually hasn’t addressed the original issue, and you don’t owe them re-entry into your life.

I think some people in the same situation must have been letting them in so for them I’m overreacting. But then for me that is so weird, i would not do the same thing to someone i intend to see in the future again. The only time was when i broke off things with my ex because he was really irresponsible and didn’t deserve my time anymore.

Often, an ex reaches out simply to see if the door is still open. It's a low-effort way for them to test your boundaries and get a quick hit of validation.

I have never gotten back with an ex either. Usually they cut contact and try to come back 1-2 years later, (though i do wonder what kind of awakening they go through) as if nothing happened. If you accept them in a way you give them that power back. Unless they made some kind of extraordinary effort to apologize which i doubt a ghoster would do anyway
