Is it common for fathers to defend daughters even when they clearly cheated?

Fathers usually get protective when their daughters are in a serious relationships. What if the guy got used, cheated on or scammed and she's not the poor innocent little girl?

My own brother got cheated on and it was his very first relationship. She cheated with HS friend and someone else. He used to get along with her parents but they still defended their daughter when he exposed her with proof on social medias. The father got very upset and called him out on it. He tried to say "but she's a cheater" and he kept cutting him off, referring to him as a coward, as so low, etc. Then he added that he's likely an idiot and that's why she cheated.

Is this common too? Even if his girl is 100% guilty and isn't the poor Little Red Hiding hood. Even if she's not the victim, he is.

Well he shouldn't have exposed it on fbook, he should have kept his dignity and walked away but when your in the moment and emotions are involved things happen.

The father would be trying to do damage control, what he says publicly to your brother and privately to his daughter maybe two different things.

Often children when theyve been raised to think there is no consequences and Daddy will fix anything they do they do awful things to others. Soceity by in large tell women that when they cheat its not their fault.

It's rarely as simple as "they cheated". There are reasons people cheat. Yes, some just can't resist an opportunity. But most often they are missing something in their marriage. There's a scene from a movie, I don't remember which, where a wife is asking her divorcing husband: "She's not younger than me, she's not prettier than me, she's not smarter than me. Why couldn't it be me?" He replies "She's softer than you. She's quieter than you. She doesn't yell at me..."

Yeah, it’s very common. A lot of parents go into “my baby can’t be the villain” mode, even when she’s clearly the cheater. Pride, denial, and ego kick in. Instead of holding their daughter accountable, they attack the victim to protect the family image.

Your brother isn’t the coward here. Publicly exposing her was dramatic, sure, but her dad calling him “an idiot” is a giant red flag. That’s not logic, that’s pure blind-parent lovebombing their own kid and blaming the hurt guy because it’s easier than admitting, “My daughter did something awful.”
