We were talking about the singer and I commented that he must be a big fan, and he replied “oh, I’d kill you for him” implying that he’s a huge fan I guess.

It really rubbed me the wrong way, but I don’t know what to make of it or if I’m overthinking it.

Actually i would go as far as saying that it is an act of intimidation, he subconsciously wants you to be afraid of him, potentially without knowing that he does. Someone intimidated him, or his father intimidated his mother, he got frightened and instead of grieving what an immoral bullshit he just witnessed, he swallowed it for convenience, and it traumatized him and his nervous system got weird as if this is normal.
