I think it's usually only a burden if they keep asking for it all the time. Once every few weeks is fine but not if it's an every day thing!

Life is busy and other people have enough going on amd enough of their own problems without having to take more time out of their day to help. Also if other people don't ask you for help, it's easy to think everyone else can figure it out for themselves so you should be able to as well.
