I suppose that if she's your best friend, you could probably get away with outright telling her, but there's part of me that recommends against it. Honestly though, that's just me being cautious. If anything, what I'd suggest is being more intentional with your language with her. Rather than asking her to "hang out", you instead ask her to spend time with you. If she does respond by asking if it's a date, then I think its best to own it and tell her it is.

Yes, we have. Honestly, she's sweet, intelligent, and funny, and we're also basically the same person I've noticed. We have the same interests, similar hobbies, we have our own inside jokes, and she's always been there for me through the good and bad times.
